Access Audit

An Access Audit helps you to see where your business or workplace is doing well and where it could improve its service to disabled customers or employees.
Our professional Access Audit Trainer will discuss your needs and business objectives with you and they will inspect your premises, website and any other publicity, as specified by you.
A detailed report is then provided, giving recommendations and suggesting an order of priority.

Access Audits

Why have access audits ?

First, you can increase the quality of your provision and employment by identifying changes that enable disabled people to take part in the same way as others.
Second, you can reduce the risk of a case being taken against you under the Disabilities Discrimination Act (1995) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Act (2001) through treating disabled people unfairly.

What do access audits consider ?

Accessibility

  • How do disabled people get to your premises ?
  • How do they get in ?
  • How do they move around ?
  • What facilities can they use ?
  • How do they get out ?

Inclusion

  • What activities can disabled people take part in ?
  • What assistance can they get ?
  • How are they treated by staff and other users ?

Information

  • How do they to know about your provision or employment ?
  • What information is available at your site ?
  • How can they get their communication requirements met ?

What next ?

We start with a pre-audit interview to establish your current situation. We then work with you to carry out the audit using a team of auditors. After which we assist you to plan and prioritise the changes, and only the changes that make your provision and employment accessible to disabled people.

Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)

This act supports the rights of disabled people for fair treatment and service. You maybe unaware of where you stand. Or, whether or not you are at risk of being taken to court. An access audit is an essential contribution to understanding where you satisfy this act and where you must take action.

We can also offer the following:

DDA Executive Briefing

A two-hour session for up to 8 senior managers explaining their Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) responsibilities with regard to employment, provision of goods and services and the DDA 2005.

A half-day suitable for larger groups of between 10 - 20, incorporating elements of the Executive Briefing with opportunities to carry out a DDA Healthcheck on your own business or department and help with thinking about forward planning for improved disability access.
